Cars...(i.e.Project Birthday)

Saw this cute idea for a Cars Birthday party from How Does She? on pinterest.com.  So today's project was to finally paint the boxes that have been consuming my dining room table for the past week.  Anyway, I think they turned out pretty well.  I'm trying to hold back being too perfectionistic and critical.  The kids love them, and that's all that really matters, right?  So, what do you think?

  2. Thank you, Jennifer! I liked the idea. I thought it took a very commercial theme and made a bit more personal. I loved your post about ds's birthday. He seems so sweet, he could talk to my son all day about cars!! And the picture in front of the cake with the family is lovely!

  3. Hi Tiffany! They look great!!! I was wondering if they were made out of 3 large boxes or a bunch of boxes taped together?

    1. Thank you. The cars were made out of three large boxes. The size of the box depends on the car size you want (and the size of the child, too). I found the really large ones were a bit too big for the kids to wrap arms around and hold. Packing tape seemed to work the best to hold the boxes together at the box flaps. Hope that helps!

    2. Tiffany, These are awesome! I'm in the process of making some for my son's 3rd birthday party on the 29th. What kind of paint did you use? Did you later add "holes" for the kids to use for their hands to help hold them up? I've also seen that some people add straps to help the cars stay "on". Anything you learned while making yours that you wish you'd done differently? Thanks! KRISTEN :)

    3. Kristen, thank you. I just used regular craft paint. For the lighter color (yellow) I needed to add a second coat, especially if there were logos on the box. I did add holes on the sides of the box and black paper plates for "wheels". See this post http://frugalgourmetmom.blogspot.com/2011/10/more-cars-stuff.html The holes worked out fine for the older kids, but not as great for smaller kids. The straps may be a good idea depending on the size boxes/size of the children for the party. Hope that helps. Have a great party!
